Yao Shi is the director of the Acoustics Design Institute, the director of the Broadcasting and Television Technology Laboratory, and a senior engineer at the China Radio and Television Design Institute.
He graduated from Nanjing University with a degree in Acoustics and is engaged in architectural acoustics and audio-visual system engineering design, consulting, and acoustic testing.
His team has undertaken projects such as: the sound system renovation design for Tiananmen Square, the sound reinforcement system design for the Great Hall of the People, the acoustic design for the China Philharmonic Orchestra Concert Hall, the acoustic design for the Beijing Concert Hall, the overall technical consulting for the Chengdu City Concert Hall, and the audio-visual system and acoustic design for the National Stadium.
He has received awards including: the First Prize for Excellent Design from the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television for "Acoustic Design of the National Stadium," the Science and Technology Progress Award from the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television for "Sound System Renovation Project of Tiananmen Square and Surrounding Areas," and the China Film and Television Youth Science and Technology Award from the China Film and Television Technology Society.
He participated in the compilation of broadcasting and television standards: "Acoustic Design Specifications for Broadcasting and Television Recording (Broadcasting) Studios and Performance Studios" GY/T5086-2012, the national standard "Construction Specifications for Sound Reinforcement System Engineering" GB50949-2013, and co-authored the monograph "Engineering Design of Television Centers."
