Professor Wu Shuoxian earned his Master's degree in Architectural Technology Science (1981) and Ph.D. in Urban Planning and Design (1984) from Tsinghua University, becoming the first doctoral graduate jointly trained in architecture and acoustics in China. He has formerly served as Deputy Director of the Division of Technological Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), member of the CAS Consultation and Evaluation Committee, member of the CAS Scientific Think Tank Development Committee, member of the Academic Degree Committee's Discipline Review Group, Chair of the Architectural Acoustics Committee of the Architectural Society of China, and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Subtropical Building Science.
He has published over 200 academic papers and 11 monographs, including Interior Acoustics and Environmental Acoustics, Principles of Architectural Acoustic Design, Music and Architecture, New Interpretations and Random Thoughts on Chinese Idioms, Selected Poems of Wu Shuoxian, Selected Calligraphy Works of Wu Shuoxian, and Collected Works of Wu Shuoxian. His research achievements have been recognized with six provincial/ministerial-level science and technology awards. He has also led the architectural acoustic design for more than 70 performance venues and sports buildings.
